I know you guys have made significant changes in the nightly builds since 2.0. Is there a plan for a formal 2.x release any time soon? |
|
|
Hi, Yes we do plan to release a 2.1 version in the next couple of weeks. This was planned to be out earlier however we decided to add a couple of new features that were not initially planned for 2.1 (full WCF remoting support for example). We are currently in the process of documenting new features and adapting to feedback from users of nightly builds. If you're not already, subscribing to our blog is the best way to keep up to date with when 2.1 is released. I hope this helps, John-Daniel Trask |

Is there any planned official Support for Mono (namely Mono 2.0 which is in beta right now and supports Linq)? I for one, running all of my DB stuff directly on Linux would love to see LightSpeed support for Linux / Mono. Naturally, having MSSql supported on Linux isn't the topmost priority on any Linux/Mono user, but having PgSQL, MySQL and SQLite would be a terrific addition.. Has anyone tried Lightspeed on Linux? Could it be that IJW (It Just Works) ?

Hi, We don't directly support MONO at this stage however I can tell you that I've run the LightSpeed assembly (only the core - not the LINQ provider work) through their compatibility checker and at the time only came up with two warnings - one relating to the System.Transactions namespace and another to do with configuration namespace. Both didn't look like major issues, just warnings that part of mono may not be implemented completely in those locations (you can run the tester yourself for more information about it). It may be wishful thinking on my behalf but I suspect that LightSpeed may just work with Mono. Just to clarify, I haven't tested any of the LINQ support with this. I'd love to hear any feedback if you do try it out. Kind regards, John-Daniel Trask |

I too would love to have support for MONO. 10% of the desktop market does not run windows, but runs MONO, and thats a HUGE opportunity to get into new markets. LINQ2DB will be supported from early next year, but already exists in the "CAIRO" project if i'm not mistaken. /beg.. Hopeful... Anthony |

Anthony, Have you tried LightSpeed as it stands now with Mono? Did it actually fail for you? While we don't state support for Mono, my initial analysis shows no show stoppers but I haven't actually tried using it with Mono and would appreciate some feedback from somebody that does use Mono. Kind regards, John-Daniel |

Hi John-Daniel, I'll give it a whiz this week, and get back to you on that one. I dont think it'll work yet as LINQ 2 SQL in only going to finished in Feb 2009. All the rest should be no prob, but ill see what happens. regards Anthony |

Thanks Anthony, LightSpeed can operate happily with .NET 2.0 if you avoid the LINQ support (which is why it's in a seperate assembly - to ensure it works with .NET 2.0) so that should work happily. Hope you're enjoying LightSpeed. Kind regards, John-Daniel |

Anthony, You'll be pleased to see that we (and more specifically, Jeremy) have now added mono support:http://www.mindscape.co.nz/blog/index.php/2009/02/12/lightspeed-and-mono/ We look forward to getting your feedback on this :-) Kind regards, John-Daniel |
