Problems with Range Validation for an entity with a property of type Double

Hi there,

 I have an entity with some Double entity properties. The Validate Value property on the entity property is set as 0.00 - 999999.00

When the Validate() method is called on the entity, I get an ArgumentException was unhandled

Object must be of type Double.

I am having a similar issue, here is the private member and attribute.

[ValidateRange(1, 555)]
private decimal _weight;

Additionally it occurs on this as well

[ValidateRange(1, 555)]
private System.Nullable<decimal> _weight;

Could you try changing the attribute to:

[ValidateRange(1m, 555m)]  // note the m suffixes

and let us know if that improves matters?  (The m is the C# suffix for saying "interpret this literal as a decimal instead of an int.)

Unfortunately it doesn't work. It results in the following:

An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type   

This turned out to be a .NET issue: decimal implements the interface we're using (IComparable) in a very finicky way that will only compare to other decimals, and as you've found out .NET won't allow you to put decimal literals into an attribute (sorry for the bad guidance there).

I've implemented a workaround, and this will be available in nightly builds dated 6 Mar 2010 and above, available from about 1500 GMT.  Once you've installed that, you can go back to your original attribute declaration (without the "m" suffix) and it should just work.
