I'm about to start a new project, and would love to use LightSpeed, but have a question... It's great that LightSpeed runs under Mono. Is there any chance that in the future it might work on Windows Phone? And even MonoDroid and MonoTouch? Obviously, I'd be all for any movement in this direction, even if it's a LightSpeed Lite that we get on there (I know you've said on this forum before that there are technical issues that would make porting hard). Are you guys looking at all at these possibilities? Or is it just not doable for technical reasons or lack of resources? Thanks. -- Vikram |

Hi Vikram, It's always great to have folks keen to see where the product is going :-) We're evaluating several places we can look at taking LightSpeed. The various platforms take on different challenges, for example, there's limitations with MonoTouch due to how they have to support the compilation to Apple's frameworks. Opportunities on platforms like Windows Phone may be easier as that platform matures -- at present there does not appear to be a commonly used database on the phone that we could attempt to work with. So in short, we have a roadmap to explore some of these areas, but we have yet to set in stone exactly which areas we want to target. So we're exploring - it's more technical and analyzing if we're 'betting on the right horse' than strictly resource based. We are aiming to issue a point release in the near future, after that we'll look at getting a more concrete roadmap up for everyone (likely very early in the new year -- keep an eye on the blog). I hope that helps, John-Daniel |

John-Daniel, Will look forward to any information. And -- WP7 Mango (and forward) will have SQL Compact built in, so any presence on that platform will be welcome. Thanks. Vikram |

Hi, John, Well.. will we have a chance to participate making the roadmap? There were several issues that we couldn't discuss further due to exsiting-code-change requirement. I guess, next major update is the only chance to talk about it. Thanks -chris |

Hi Chris, All our customers take part in dictating the roadmap to a degree in what's being asked for. If something gets enough interest we typically support it. The usual approach with any of our products is that the changes are 75% based on user requests and suggestions and 25% things we think would make the product so much better that might not yet be considered. If there's things you would like, please do post them in the forum -- it's great to get others +1 on feature request threads. There's always things we would like to add mid-cycle but cannot due to breaking changes, so often we suggest work arounds in those cases. If there's a few things you'd like to have pay particular attention to adding in the next major release then please email me: jd@mindscape.co.nz so I can keep it on the radar more easily (we do track feature requests internally, but we can mark things as more urgent to make sure they do get evaluated). I cannot promise that all requests will make it into a new release, but I really do appreciate hearing what you would like so we can move in the right direction for everyone. Thanks! |

Hi, John, I would love to put feature request. Could you please do me a favor? Is it possible to create "Feature Request" Forum? The point is to have many people easily share ideas. Perhaps it's better to create more categories as there are many messages posted everyday. Currently, it's hard to comb through between, bug report, question, feature request from a single forum. Thanks. -chris |

Chris, that's a great idea. We'll investigate doing it a bit better than just another forum however. I think it would be nice if the feature request section allowed for voting (something similar to what UserVoice does for example). I'll see what we can do over the Christmas period to get this done. Thanks! John-Daniel |

Hi, John, That's a great news! I'm still learning Lightspeed and there are many aspects about ORM. Finer categories might be useful to easily direct my interests while learning. I'm looking forward for more particiapations from users and successful business. Thanks. |

John-Daniel, If you guys are working on the forums -- it would be really nice to get RSS feeds for the forums. Easier to keep up, etc. Vikram |

Hi there, I too would be very interested to learn if it would be possible to use Lightspeed WP7-side :) Actually, I'd love this to be a feature request :) |

I forgot about the forum update. ^^ John, how's it making progress? |
