Hello - After installing VS.NET 2012 Professional and Windows 8, then installing the latest nightly 4.0 build (August 14) when I double click my model file, all I see in the IDE is the XML. I've attached a screenshot that shows the XML as well as the properties of the model file itself in case that is helpful. Thanks, Chris |

Still no luck. :( I tried to run the custom tool, and this is the error that was reported in the activity log. 455 ERROR CreateInstance failed for package [Mindscape.LightSpeed.Generator.Integration.LightSpeedModelPackage, Mindscape.LightSpeed.Generator.Integration.DslPackage.10, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=dabefdafd5f32554] {AF67EB34-A276-4AAD-9E7A-9A672C30F1F1} 80070002 VisualStudio 2012/08/16 19:45:00.651 456 ERROR End package load [Mindscape.LightSpeed.Generator.Integration.LightSpeedModelPackage, Mindscape.LightSpeed.Generator.Integration.DslPackage.10, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=dabefdafd5f32554] {AF67EB34-A276-4AAD-9E7A-9A672C30F1F1} 80004005 - E_FAIL VisualStudio 2012/08/16 19:45:00.651 Very similar to this post: http://www.mindscapehq.com/forums/thread/353123 |

OK - Finally solved, in that other thread it is mentioned that vs2010 shell is needed.. so I downloaded that in isolated mode, reinstalled lightspeed and now good to go. For anyone else who might get this problem, here is a link to download. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1366 |

My designed stopped working in vs.net 2010 today. I have not installed vs.net 2012. I uninstalled and re installed but that did not work. |

The only way I could get it to work was to set the designer to an empty state (like it was new) and then it worked. Not sure why and never could figure out what was wrong with it. |

Hi Joe & Chris, Joe, you might want to check the LightSpeed FAQ as I suspect you're talking about VS2010 here. There is a bug in VS2010 that causes the file to open as XML if it ever has a problem and then not fix itself later. Chris, thanks for reporting this. Jeremy is looking into a fix to not require the VS 2010 shell and will update the thread when there is some news on that. Sorry for the inconvenience! I hope that helps, John-Daniel Trask |

Just an update to let you know that we have updated the designer over the weekend to remove the last dependancies to the VS2010 shell components when installing for VS2012 so this is now in the latest nightlies. Let us know if you happen to find anything else that we might have missed though!
