Since I upgraded to LS 5.5 I seem to have terrible performance with the LS model. For example if I open the model, it takes about 45 seconds to a minute to just display the model. The if I try to update the model from the DB, when I right click it takes more than a minute to even show the right click menu, then about another minute to highlight the option where the mouse is. Everything is completely unusable. I previously used the model with VS 2013 and LS 5, and all was fine. I then upgraded to VS2015 and LS 5.5, this is when the problems started. I tried opening the model in VS2013 again as it is still installed on my computer, but I get the same performance there also. My model is quite large, 160 tables, some of them with 30 or more columns. I thought about looking at splitting the model, but from what I have read there is no easy way to do this, and it seems to make more problems than it fixes. Have I reached some sort of limit with my model? My computer is an i7 with Windows 10 64 bit, 16Gb Memory and an SSD drive, so there should be no performance hold ups there. I would note I tried the same tasks on a different computer of similar specs, and received exactly the same performance issues. Recreating the model from scratch would be an absolute nightmare, as I have literally hundreds of columns with settings in the model, especially allow empty string etc. which would all need to be set again manually. This is causing me a real problem, so any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Mark, We'll do a test on a large model here. In general, the only work we undertook was to ensure that the model designer was compiled against the DSL Tools framework provided by Microsoft for VS2015 to ensure compatibility. We've not made any changes to how our part of that engine works. We'll do some investigation, but at this point I'd have a hunch that Microsoft may have a performance issue in the updated DSL Tools framework (fingers crossed that if it is that, that the next service pack or similar may resolve this). Kind regards, John-Daniel Trask |

I have just created a small model, around 20 tables, and the performance is good in both VS2013 and VS2015. I also used the filter option in the full size model, and when that was reduced to just a few tables, it also began working at normal speed. But what I don't understand is why it is slow in VS2013, where it never used to be, or do they share common DSL tools? |

That's what we need to test, because we literally haven't made any other changes. We know how Microsoft loves their in-place upgrades at times so perhaps it has overwritten the older implementation. Just a hunch at this stage sorry Mark! John-Daniel Trask |

Hi Guys, Any feedback on this. This current situation is completely intolerable. I cannot work on the model at all. To add a single field to the database then update the model takes me the best part of an hour. If we cannot find a solution to this, I am going to have to stop using Lightspeed and find an alternate ORM tool. I have to say, that its seems to me that you guys have lost all interest in supporting Lightspeed. When I first started using it, there were regular updates, blogs of what had improved, and replies to problems with hours, or next day at least. Now, there has not been a blog about changes or improvements in ages, there are nightly updates, but no information about if there is anything new or useful in them. And the crisp level of support has definitely gone. All in all, very disappointing. I just recently renewed my support contract for another year, but I am now seriously regretting doing that. |

Hi Mark, I've given this a test with one of my models and haven't had the same performance issues you've reported here. I'm left concluding that either it's machine specific OR it's model specific. If you're ok with it, could you email me a zip containing your LightSpeed model (doesn't need the backing database, I just want to load it in VS) to support@mindscape.co.nz so I can take a poke at it? Sorry about the delay here, it's just a very busy time. At this time we still undertake work on LightSpeed because we use it ourselves. Again, my apologies for the delay in following up on this. Hi, I emailed you the model some time ago, I was wondering if there is any feedback? With regards to machine performance, it does this on two separate systems, both fast i7 processors, both 16GB RAM, one SSD drive the a standard 7200 rpm drive. Both running Windows 10 x64 bit. Neither computer shows any signs or performance issues. One computer, I did a clean reinstall of the development environment, and it is the same. We have also recently installed the latest VS2015 updates, still no difference. This is causing me huge problems, and to be honest I am coming to the end of my tether. |

Hi Mark, I do not seem to have received an email from you since I asked about it sorry - can you resend and let me know when you have done so? Since some time has past: Can you confirm if you've upgraded to Update 1 of Visual Studio 2015 now as well? Kind regards, John-Daniel Trask |
