Hello, we are currently using VS 2008 SP1 , MVC 1 and Lightspeed version 3.0.789.12667 (Runtime Version 2.0.50727). We are in the process of upgrading our project to use VS 2012, MVC 4 and .Net 4.5. We don't plan to update the version of Lightspeed until Q2 of 2013. So my question is : Is the Lightspeed version that we use compatible with VS 2012. If yes then great, if no then can we use it at all understanding that some features will not be available (such as the Entity Editor for example) or will it not load in the project at all. Thanks very much in advance. The upgrade process is quite complex and we are only 15% of the way there so I would like to know in advance if there will be any surprises along the way. Susan |

Hi Susan, The LightSpeed runtime (e.g. Mindscape.LightSpeed.dll and associated assemblies) will work just fine. You'll want to move up to the latest nightly builds of 4.0 to get the VS2012 integrated design surface however (by the time you make the full migration LightSpeed 5 will be out the door and you'll bet good to move direct to that). There shouldn't be any surprises. Even when you migrate to LightSpeed 4 (or possibly 5) the API changes are relatively minimal and likely will only take a short period of time to upgrade to. We try very hard to minimise the changes required even between major versions. I hope that helps, John-Daniel |
